Palm Sunday

It’s Palm Sunday this Sunday and I am preparing a message on the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem found in Luke 19.

Now this passage in Luke 19 is different to the others in the fact that Jesus enters Jerusalem crying. The question I’m seeking to ask and do my best to answer is, “Why is Jesus Crying?” Now in order to answer this question I’ve decided to look at chapter 19 as a whole instead of the triumphant entry in isolation. This Chapter begins with the story of Zacchaeus, moves into a parable about servants and coins, then has Jesus enter Jerusalem on a donkey, then finally as Jesus is weeping he casts judgement on the temple.

Now I’ve got some ideas, about Jesus’ crying. I believe it is connected to the stories immediately before and after within chapter 19, but who cares what I think, I would love to know what you think.

What are your thoughts?

Why is Jesus crying? and What impact do the stories immediately before and after Jesus’ triumphant entry have on his crying, if any?
